In February 1983 the Lincolnshire Land Rover Club formed from a small advert in the local paper 23 Land Rover enthusiasts met in a public house and the club was created. The membership has slowly grown each year until 200 members that now are the LLRC. They make no excuses for being a true competitive club A club that never fails to bring home trophies from the ARC National Rally. Their unique trademark is the number of pre 1954 series one Land Rovers that still compete. It would not be unusual to see over 20 of these original vehicles at a CCV Trial, all with their original 2 litre engines under the bonnet. Only four years ago when the club hosted the National Rally the old hands were certain that a coil sprung trialler wouldn't win the CCVT, They were proved right and were pleased when a series one 2 litre leaf sprung Land Rover won the title the last time this has been achieved. Besides a strong competitive element the club has an Emergency Planning section Soon after the Land Rover Club became established, it was approached by the Lincolnshire Emergency Planning Officer looking for volunteers who could offer four wheel drive transport in the event of local or national emergencies. It has become a vital part of all emergency continuance plans for the County Through the years, volunteers have been called upon to assist during floods have successfully collected and delivered vital drugs to hospitals," when it was not possible" due to bad road conditions! Collection of dialysis patients and taken to various hospitals when normal ambulances were unable to do so, due to bad road conditions, has also been undertaken Also assisting snow bound police and looking for reported distressed motorists in extreme weather conditions has also been carried out. Over forty members names are on a call out list and have proven to turn out and assist when others have been unable to do so. One quarter of the volunteers are now licensed radio hams, which allows good communications even if the telephone system goes down. The club is a member of the Association of Rover Clubs (ARC), this basically means that their members will run Land Rover based vehicles. They will be the first ARC club to host a National Rally, British Off Road Championship round, and a Hillrally. They also have been instrumental in changing the Timed Trial regulations to make this 4x4 discipline affordable. The club has become a victim of their own success and now have made their annual winter safari, The Malachi, invitation only because of demand.
